McKinis Lache - Boss
Back in September, a fashion stylist I’ve tested with in the past reached out to me for a portrait sesh of her own. At some point in our back and forth, she told me she’d “…never done this for [herself] so its [was] definitely time…” which I LOVED. As Donna so wisely says, “Treat Yo Self!”
So…the great part about working with someone that’s in the fashion industry, is that they’re coming to you with ideas as much as you’re coming to them with ideas. It is a particularly collaborative effort which makes it really fun for me.
This was the Pinterest board she sent me initially:
So first thoughts? “Yaaas!” … or is it “Yasss!”? I was absolutely DIGGING the edgy styling, the dramatic lighting, the deep shadows, literally right down my alley! I sent her back just a couple more inspo pics, which were slightly more grunge, simply due to location.
She was feelin’ it, so we landed on the Fabrication Yard for our shoot.
A couple weeks before our shoot, she sent me the pieces of her outfit. Being a fashionista, it was obviously bomb! I especially love the Rag & Bone blouse; would totally get that for myself.
It was finally the day of our shoot. She texted me that morning, and said a memory came up on her Snap. It was the second anniversary or our first test shoot. Bro… kismet. Here are some of my favorite shots from our first time working together. <3
This is still one of my favorites shoots to date. I was crazy bummed when she left for the big city, NYC. It’s not every day you find a talented, fellow creative to collaborate with that shares your aesthetic.
So anyway, our session went off without a hitch. :) Here are a few of her picks. The last one is definitely the hero shot, and we almost didn’t get it. 1) I’d nearly forgotten about the netted, rhinestone veil. 2) It was super dark by that point, and while I do have off brand speedlites, it was meh, until her HMUA (also a photographer) reminded me that, DUH, I have a reflector in my kit. *facepalm*
